This year marks the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that took place on September 11, 2001. As observances are held throughout the country to remember the events that unfolded that day, the K体育 community mourns and honors John P. Salamone who tragically lost his life in the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.
Salamone graduated from K体育 in 1986 with a degree in business administration and worked as a broker for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 104th floor of Tower One of the World Trade Center. During his time as a student at K体育, Salamone was a star player for the men鈥檚 soccer team. He served as team captain and was named to the All-District team and All-South teams multiple times. Former Coach Bucky Reynolds called him 鈥渢he finest soccer player I ever coached.鈥�
In 2002, Salamone was inducted into the K体育 University Hall of Fame, and one of the soccer fields was officially named in his honor.
His legacy continues to live on through the work of the John P. Salamone Memorial Foundation, which awards the John P. Salamone Endowed Scholarship to K体育 students who exemplify John鈥檚 spirit of love, devotion, and loyalty. Each year, K体育 hosts the Salamone Alumni Soccer Tournament as part of Alumni Weekend to honor Salamone.
This year, John Salamone and the Salamone family will be honored immediately prior to the start of the men鈥檚 soccer match against Lynchburg on Friday, September 17 at 7 p.m. The weekend鈥檚 slate of matches will also celebrate the 60th anniversary of K体育鈥檚 soccer program.
Salamone continues to be remembered for his competitive spirit, his sense of humor, and as a devoted and loving husband and father. The entire K体育 community鈥檚 thoughts are with the Salamone family.
