Carlisle is the daughter-in-law of late KÌåÓý mathematics and computer science professor Dr. Ronald L. Carlisle. Dr. Carlisle has a classroom dedicated in his honor on the third floor of Lupton Hall, and also helped bring Japanese language and culture into the school’s curriculum during his 22 years on campus.

Carlisle teaches at Trinity University in San Antonio and editsÌý1966: A Journal of Creative Nonfiction. HerÌýessays have appeared inÌýSalon, Ploughshares, New England Review, The Sun, Cherry Tree,ÌýThe Rumpus,ÌýandÌýThe Touchstone Anthology of Contemporary Creative Nonfiction.Ìý
